Pitching

Fundamental Fielding | Proper Pitching | Better Batting

Proper Pitching
I feel the best way to explain proper pitching technique is through looking at some major league pitchers and their form. You will notice that most of them all have similar technique

I

The above is a picture of Roy Halladay. A Cy Young award winner and a former Arvada West High School pitcher. Notice how his hips are opening toward home plate and his lead foot, shoulder, and chin are all pointing directly as his target - home plate. This picture captures the position you want to be in the instant before your throwing arm starts to come forward. His hands over the ball, elbow up, glove tucked into his armpit.

This is a picture of Sun Woo Kim - another major league picture. Notice again the front foot pointing directly at home plate. Now the hips have fully come around and the front foot has planted. Throwing arm follows the body and legs (similar to proper hitting technique). Also notice the nice long stride and the glove tucked in.

Tom Seaver - Hall of fame pitcher. Notice the nice high leg raise - which will help lengthen his stride. He is well balanced which is key in maintaining accuracy and consistency.
