Skills Fundamental Fielding | Proper Pitching | Better Batting Coaching Technique A building block approach to the skills of baseball - catching, throwing, fielding, pitching, and baserunning. Perfect each step of a skill beginning with its most simplistic form and buliding on it from there. Fielding the Ball: As a fielder, always move toward the ball and try to catch it in the center of your body with two hands. Extend the glove out in front of you so you can see the ball into the glove. Keep the glove low!!!! Cover the ball with your throwing hand.
Try to grab the ball out of the glove and bring the ball back in a throwing position as soon as possible. See picture below - shoulders, chin, glove pointing at target. Arm is back and ball is up.
Initiate throw by bringing glove into armpit. Step toward the target - elbow stays ABOVE the shoulder and follow through by bringing the throwing side hip around on your follow through.
In throwing, work on keeping the throwing elbow UP. Don't sling it, push it or side-arm it. Throwing "over the top" increases strength, velocity and accuracy. It also protects the arm from injury. |
